Video Metadata Remover
Remove GPS, camera, and creation metadata from MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV. Lossless remux with no re-encode and no quality loss. Free video metadata remover.
What this tool does
This video metadata remover strips GPS coordinates, camera details, and creation dates from MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV files without re-encoding the video. The tool edits the container, not the streams, so the picture and sound are untouched.
Files up to 100 MB are cleaned in your browser. Larger files run on our private server and are deleted within an hour.
How it works
- Add the video you want to clean.
- Choose what to remove: GPS only, or all metadata in one pass.
- Download the clean copy. The video itself is unchanged.

When to use it
Remove location before posting
GPS tags in a video are readable by anyone who looks. Strip home coordinates before sharing.
Client deliveries
Hand over files that carry no editing history or device details.
Family footage
Clean personal clips before they circulate beyond the people they were meant for.
Second-hand footage
Bought or downloaded clips often carry the original owner's details. Clean them before reuse.
What gets removed, and what does not
The tool removes the information layer: GPS coordinates, creation dates, camera and device names, and software signatures. It does not touch the video or audio streams. A file comes back the same quality and nearly the same size, minus the data layer.
Routing follows the pattern used across the site. Files up to 100 MB are cleaned in the browser, which is as private as it sounds. Larger files use our private server over an encrypted connection, and both copies are deleted within an hour.
The removal itself is a remux, not a re-encode: the container is rewritten with the data boxes stripped and the streams are copied bit-for-bit. That is why it is fast and why the quality is mathematically unchanged.
Frequently asked questions
Will removing metadata change my video?
No. The video and audio streams are copied untouched; only the container's data boxes are removed. That is why the file keeps its exact quality and roughly the same size.
Can I remove just the GPS data?
Yes. Choose GPS-only removal to keep dates and camera details, or remove everything in a single pass.
What metadata can a video even contain?
Typically a creation date, device make and model, GPS coordinates, and the software that edited the file, sometimes plus author or title fields. Not every file carries all of it, and many carry more than people expect.
Where is my file processed?
Files up to 100 MB are cleaned in your browser. Larger files are cleaned on our private server and deleted within an hour. Neither path keeps a copy.
How do I see what metadata a video has first?
Use the Video Metadata Checker to read exactly what the file carries, then run the remover for the fields you would rather not share.
